The state govt’s department of tourism is planning to set up a glass deck at Hundru Falls and a glass bridge at Dassam Falls in the coming months to draw more visitors during tourist seasons.
“Tourism minister Sudivya Kumar, who attended the Rajgir Mela in Bihar earlier this month, was impressed by the glass bridge set up there a few years ago. He invited the developer of the project to Jharkhand to assess whether it could be replicated in the state,” tourism secretary Manoj Kumar said.
Soon after, the developers visited Ranchi and took stock of the Hundru and Dassam waterfalls. “While they said that there was a scope to set up a glass deck at Hundru, a glass bridge is possible at Dassam,” Kumar added. The waterfalls, both situated in Ranchi district, draw thousands of tourists from across the state and other parts of the country during the winter, spring and monsoon seasons every year. Both the sites are a prominent picnic spot during the winters.
Kumar said Hundru Falls will get an upgrade in terms of tourist facilities. “The department has sanctioned Rs 3 crore to repairthe staircases (which lead to the base of the waterfalls) and set up resting areas in between. That apart, the viewing deck at the base will be repaired and there would be an increased amount of lighting around the waterfalls,” he added.
