Vehicles will not be allowed to take the Mumbai-Pune Expressway’s Panvel exit route on the Mumbai carriageway to travel towards Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT via Kalamboli circle for the next six months, starting Tuesday.
The restriction, which also applies to vehicles heading towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata, is due to the ongoing construction of a flyover and an underpass at Kalamboli circle by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation, announced Navi Mumbai traffic police’s Kalamboli unit.
“All types of vehicles, including cars and heavy vehicles, plying along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway towards Panvel, Goa, and JNPT will be diverted to the left from Kon Phata (junction) at 9.6km distance before the Panvel exit route to reach Palaspe circle and connect to NH-48 [Delhi-Chennai national highway] to reach their destinations,” deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Tirupati Kakade said.”Vehicles from Pune heading towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata will have to climb down the Expressway, instead of taking the Panvel exit, to reach Kalamboli and travel along the Sion-Panvel highway, then take a right turn under the flyover near Pursharth petrol pump to reach Roadpali and travel ahead to connect to NH-48,” he added.
Kakade further said that vehicles coming from Pune to reach MTHL (Atal Setu) will not be inconvenienced as they divert from the service road at Kon Phata. “The flyover and underpass at Kalamboli circle will resolve the severe traffic congestion as vehicles heading towards Panvel, JNPT, and Goa will skip all signals,” he added.
